Applying COST 259 Channel Models to UMTS Uplink System-Level Simulations with Smart Antennas

چکیده
In this paper we investigate the impact of spatiotemporal channel models on the system-level capacity in the UMTS FDD uplink. We study the performance of spacetime processing for flat fading and COST 259 channel models. The results are expressed in terms of multiple-access noise rise, which is derived by a stationary system simulator. Smart-antennas provide a clear advantage in mixed rate traffic services in comparison to non-adaptive antenna systems. In urban environments, the flat fading assumption is found to be a lower bound for the capacity estimation of both conventional and smart-antenna systems, respectively.

Smart antennas for combined DOA and joint channel estimation in time-slotted CDMA mobile radio systems with joint detection
In cellular mobile radio systems, the directional inhomogeneity of the mobile radio channel can be exploited by smart antennas to increase the spectral efficiency. In this paper, a novel smart antenna concept applying receiver antenna diversity at the uplink receiver is investigated for a time-slotted code-division multiple-access (CDMA) mobile radio air interface termed time-division CDMA (TD-...
متن کاملMIMO/Smart Antenna Development Platform
Smart Antennas (SA) and Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems are considered as one of the key technologies for the third generation mobile communication systems and are now even being included in the UMTS standard [1]. With those technologies it is possible to improve the signal-to-noise ratio at the receiver and increase capacity in mobile radio systems. To test and evaluate new algor...

The purpose of this paper is to present and explain some results of ASILUM1, a project included into IST (Information Society Technologies), a research programme of European Community. This project aims to contribute to the technical innovation and policies of the European Community by validating new transceivers concepts to increase the capacity of UMTS (FDD and TDD modes) through new and effi...
متن کاملADAM: A Realistic Implementation for a W-CDMA Smart Antenna
Adaptive-type smart antennas do not usually operate on the deployed universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS) scenarios, although UTRA (UMTS terrestrial radio access) foresees their operation and they would improve capacity especially in mixed-service environments. This paper describes the implementation of a software radio-based version of an adaptive antenna, named ADAM, that can be us...
متن کاملSpatial Reciprocity of Uplink and Downlink Radio Channels in FDD Systems
We investigate the congruence of the directional properties of uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) as seen from the base station in WCDMA of UMTS by means of spatial channel measurements. Our study illustrates that the directional properties of the mobile radio channel are strongly correlated in uplink and downlink radio channels. Therefore, the utilization of spatial information derived during uplin...
